The Piazza Navona is a square in Rome that owes its shape to the ruins that formed it; under the buildings that surround it are the remains of the Circus Domitianus, Domitian’s stadium.
In the centre of the piazza is Bernini’s famous fountain, Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers, erected in 1651). Unfortunately, when we were there, it was under construction, covered in scaffolding, and had a huge stage set-up in front of it.
