The Erechtheum is an ancient Greek temple on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens in Greece. The temple as seen today was built between 421 BCE and 407 BCE. On the south side is the famous “porch of the maidens,” with six draped female figures (caryatids) as supporting columns. On the west side is the spot where, according to the myth, Athena caused an olive tree to grow when she was contesting Poseidon for the honor of being the patron divinity of Athens.
